CRCP - CHICKIES ROCK COUNTY PARK
Featured
Route 441 / River Road, Marietta PA
Located between the boroughs of Columbia and Marietta, Chickies Rock County Park is the county's second largest regional park. Today the park exceeded 422 acres over several locations. The most popular feature in the park is Chickies Rock. Which is a massive outcropping of quartzite rock that sits 100 feet above the river. A short hike takes you to the overlook that offers views of York county, the borough of Marietta, and farmlands of northwestern Lancaster County. The park also boosts a second overlook, Breezyview Overlook. This overlook is easier to access and doesn't require the hike.
Chickies Rock County Park's name is derived from the American Indian word Chiquesalunga meaning "place of the crayfish." With its numerous vistas, varied natural and geological features, and rich industrial heritage, Chickies Rock County Park is a wonderful place to visit.
At separate locations there are additional trials, Clayton B. Shenk Trail and the Girl Scout Trail, that offer hikes through the woods, skirting farm fields and taking you along Chiques Creek.
